Milan was a new city to discover and my third time in Italy !
I wanted to visit Milan for a while but it wasn’t on the top of my list. However, cheap flight tickets found on the EasyJet website convinced me to go there (100€ for two persons, booked 12 days before, a good deal!
I had different points of view about Milan. Some people say it’s a nice city but not the best whilst others say that it’s a great and a unique city which doesn’t deserve to be compared.
Well, after my trip I definitely agree with the second category ! It’s a beautiful city, and even if I don’t know Italy very well, I think it’s unfair to compare the cities. Every city is different, has its own history, culture and architecture. By definition, the city is unique !
The city center is lovely and you can visit it by walk. According to where you want to go, you can take the subway or the tramway but it’s so much better to walk. The more you walk, the more you see !The heart of the city is without any doubt the Piazza del Duomo with its beautiful cathedral. I saw it a million times on picture but it’s really great to see it for real. It looks really impressive, one of the biggest cathedral of the world. I could notice that the decoration is a little overloaded but it stays a wonderful religious building. Be careful when you queue, especially if you want to go to the terrace at the end of the day to admire the sunset from the top of the cathedral. The cathedral closed at 7pm but people can’t go inside after 6pm.
Next to the cathedral, you can’t miss the famous gallery Vittorio Emmanuele II, always busy ! Really impressive, the lovers of luxury shopping should find their happiness !
If you cross the gallery, you will arrive on a little square where the famous opera « The Scala » is located. If you want to see a show, book your tickets in advance ! Otherwise, you can still visit the museum of the Opera.
There are a lot of museums of Milan dedicated to all kinds of arts. In 2 days I knew I would’t have enough time to walk into the city and spend time in museums. I wanted to see as much a possible of the city so I chose to walk. So I just went to the museum of the cathedral (included in the ticket) and to the museum of the Scala.
I knew too late that The Cene from Leonardo Da Vinci is in Milan. If you want to see it, make sure to book your tickets early otherwise you won’t be able to see it !
Do not miss the Navigli area which is very nice at the end of the day when the sun goes down (I won’t say anything about the property of the canal..). This area is alive and you have a lot of place where to have a drink.
To conclude, a very important topic for you women, the shopping ! As you know, Milan is the capital of the fashion so obviously you will find a lot of shop clothes, for all the prices (which is good news for our purses ! ). Between two shops, get some energy with a good « gelateria! »
